Cegetel Launches IXTRANS, New Secure Data Service Using Alcatel
Cegetel launches new data service to enterprise customers in France over Alcatel optical, multi-service transport solution
Paris-/25 Nov, 2004 - Wi-Fi Technology News/- Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) and Cegetel, France's first alternative national fixed telecommunications operator, announced that Cegetel has launched a new, high speed and secure data service for large and medium enterprises. The new data service named IXTRANS, is commercially available throughout France and delivered by Cegetel over its transmission network based on Alcatel's optical multi-service transport solution.
IXTRANS is a secure data service with the highest level of reliability based on PDH, SDH and Ethernet interfaces.
"IXTRANS represents a significant step forward in our capability to respond to our customers' demands," stated Olivier Cardon Product Manager of Cegetel. "Alcatel's data-aware transport solution combines high-speed capabilities with the reliability that is key to roll out new data services and applications over our infrastructure with guaranteed quality and security."
New, high-bandwidth services and applications such as interconnection of local area networks, videoconferencing and storage networking are fast becoming a reality in today's networks. As a result, Cegetel is optimizing its existing network resources to respond to these needs. Ethernet connections offer a flexible and secure way to support a varied bandwidth range from 2 Mbit/s to 10 Gbit/s, which are delivered according to the customers' specific requirements and their service level agreements.
"Today, bandwidth-hungry applications require scalable transmission solutions that enable operators and service providers to adapt their network capacity in line with their real transport needs," stated Lo?c Le Grouiec, General Manager of Alcatel's optical network activities in France. "Through the integration of data capabilities, the Alcatel OMSNs offer a converged platform enabling network simplification whereby voice and broadband services can be carried with greater performance and efficiency."
Using the Alcatel Optical Multi-Service Node (OMSN) systems equipped with data functionality, Cegetel expands its service portfolio by introducing new end-to-end Ethernet services that enable its enterprise customers to quickly establish high-capacity corporate connections to multiple locations across France. The Alcatel OMSN systems offer an excellent evolution path for current SDH networks to deliver advanced data services with the highest level of security and Quality of Service (QoS), as well as a true, end-to-end platform for new multi-service network deployments.
The deployed systems are managed by the Alcatel 1350 management suite offering a modular portfolio for advanced management of multi-service transport networks, from small to the very large networks, integrating data transport services.
