RAD to unveil its new Vmux?-400 GSM A-bis Optimization Gateway

Vmux-400 Saves Cellular Operators More Than 50% of Transport Costs Between Base Stations and Base Station Controllers

-/12 Jan, 2005 - Wi-Fi Technology News/-RAD Data Communications has announced that it will unveil its new Vmux?-400 GSM A-bis Optimization Gateway at 3GSM World Congress 2005, to be held February 14-17 in Cannes, France.

The Vmux-400 enables cellular operators to achieve better bandwidth utilization, improve the efficiency of backhaul infrastructure and pave the way to IP/ATM solutions of the future. ?2G continues to expand, and all predictions indicate that it will continue to be deployed until at least 2010,? states Gaby Junowicz, Senior Business Development Manager at RAD Data Communications. ?This is a solution sorely needed in the market, in particular when backhaul is carried over expensive satellite links.?

Coming right from the antenna, Base Station-to-BSC traffic is already optimized, but it does have certain inefficiencies. The Vmux-400 rectifies these inefficiencies by transmitting more traffic over existing bandwidth. In the process, Opex is dramatically reduced.

The Vmux-400, furthermore, optimizes traffic by enabling two E1s or T1s from two separate base stations to be transported to the BSC over a single E1/T1 line or a serial or IP uplink. ?Base station-to-BSC traffic amounts to as much as 60 to 80 percent of the cellular operator?s total transport costs,? Junowicz notes. ?Eliminating one out of every two E1/T1 lines to the BSC reduces those transport costs by 50 percent, so the savings provided by the Vmux-400 solution is extremely significant.?

Ideal for Satellite Backhaul
RAD?s Vmux-400 is especially ideal for cellular operators transmitting backhaul traffic over expensive satellite or microwave links. ?A-bis optimization can provide them with a similar savings of more than 50 percent on their wireless transport costs,? Junowicz continues. ?Due to the high cost of satellite transmission, the return on investment in the Vmux-400 is enormous and the payback is quick,? he adds. ?By providing cellular operators with such savings on Opex, RAD?s Vmux-400 allows them to expand their networks and introduce new revenue-enhancing services,? Junowicz concludes.

The Vmux-400 neatly complements RAD?s Vmux family of voice trunking and voice switching gateways, providing cellular network managers with a comprehensive, single-vendor solution. While the Vmux-400 optimizes the A-bis (BTS to BSC) interface, both the A (BSC-to-MSC) and E (MSC-to-PSTN) interface can be optimized by RAD?s popular Vmux-2100 voice trunking gateway.

Vmux-2100 Yields Full Payback in as Quickly as 40 Days

The industry-leading Vmux-2100 voice trunking gateway, which has been deployed by cellular operators on six continents, dramatically reduces voice trunking expenditures for BSE-to-MSC and MSC-to-MSC interconnectivity by enabling up to 16 full E1 lines to be extended over a single E1 or Ethernet uplink. The Vmux-2100, which is now being used to compress thousands of separate links worldwide, typically yields full payback within six months, and even as quickly as in 40 days.
