D-Link Launches The New DES-1526 Power Over Ethernet Switch

London,-/July 14, 2005 - Wi-Fi Technology News/- D-Link, the leading provider of networking and communication solutions to the consumer, SMB and enterprise markets, has today announced the launch of a new Power over Ethernet switch, the DES-1526. This switch presents a cost-effective solution for small and medium businesses looking to build a flexible network that combines Power over Ethernet with a powerful and manageable 10/100Mbps switch.

Ideal for installations in offices, factories, hospitals and schools, the DES-1526 can also be used for public Wi-Fi deployment where multiple access points are required, such as in hotels, airports and marinas.

This POE switch is ideal for surveillance and wireless networks where supplying power to cameras and access points can be difficult and expensive. By transmitting remote power through the standard network cabling, the DES-1526 provides a centralised source of power ? eliminating the need for individual power sources.

?Power over Ethernet is fast becoming the ideal power solution for numerous data devices that have historically required their own power sources. Wireless access points and IP Cameras for example can now be installed with more flexibility and no extra cost,? said Balvinder Singh Phull, Marketing Communications Manager D-Link UK and Ireland.

New 24-Port Switch with Smart Functions
The DES-1526 is a new switch with 24 x 10/100Mbps ports, all of which support Power over Ethernet as per the 802.3af standard. Two 1000BASE-T/SFP (Mini-GBIC) combo ports give the option for flexible copper or fibre gigabit links.

The switch also offers functions for Quality of Service (QoS) that are suitable for today?s multimedia applications. The administrator can virtually segregate the network so as to prioritise business-critical information such as voice or video packets or port trunking, in order to create extra powerful links to servers or other switches. The DES-1526 also offers tools for network monitoring such as port mirroring, SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol), port statistics and remote access to the password-protected configuration interface. The DES-1526 is also equipped with diagnostic LEDs showing link, speed, power and activity, enabling problems in the network to be identified and corrected quickly.

All 24 ports offer up to 15.4 watts output capacity. Any device that is IEEE 802.3af compliant can be connected to the switch without auxiliary power. For devices that do not support 802.3af, D-Link?s DWL-P50 Power over Ethernet adapter can be used to supply the device with power. The DES-1526 also supports active circuit protection which automatically disables a port in the event of a short-circuit, leaving the other ports active.

The automatic functions of the switch make installation hassle-free: simply plug and play. Automatic MDI/MDI-X on all ports eliminates the need for crossover cables to provide a connection to another switch. Auto-negotiation at each port recognises the link speed of a network device (10 or 100Mbps) and makes intelligent adjustments to achieve compatibility and optimise performance. On linking any 802.3af-compliant device the power supply is automatically adjusted to suit the device.

DES-1526 Features:
- 24-port 10/100Mbps smart switch with Power over Ethernet (PoE)
- 2 x 10/100/1000BASE-T/SFP (Mini-GBIC) combo ports
- All ports support PoE to 802.3af standard
- Up to 15.4 watts per PoE port with automatic PoE identification
