Leeds City Council Roll Out Digital Pen And Paper Solution

Estimates Social Services savings of ?1.2 million at ?the stroke of a pen?

-/October 04, 2005 - Wi-Fi Technology News/-Destiny?, a world leader in the delivery of Digital Pen and Paper technology (DP&P), has announced that Leeds City Council is to roll-out a major Destiny Digital Pen and Paper solution worth ?366,000 to some 1,300 home care workers.

This order follows the success of a recent Social Service pilot project using 100 digital pens. Leeds City Council is one of the UK?s largest councils, and estimates that equipping its home care workers with Destiny?s technology will result in savings of some ?1.2 million over the next two and a half years. The DP&P solution will help Leeds City Council to reduce the amount of time staff spend on administration, and will allow more resources to be focused on front line service provision.

Social Service home care workers will use the Destiny DP&P solution to convert and store their hand written case notes on Anoto? Functionality Digital Paper, which they can then send directly back to their office using a GPRS connection via their mobile phone. Case data is immediately transferred to the Leeds City Council Social Services department central IT system ensuring that individual case information is always up-to-date. Home care workers are also able to leave a paper copy at a client?s home, enabling other carers to have a detailed record of care provision on site.

?Thanks to Destiny?s Digital Pen and Paper solution we?ve been able to identify a significant ?1.2 million saving in our Social Services operation, and this has attracted substantial interest from other services including the Leeds Youth Offending Service. We are now looking at how DP&P technology could be applied in other parts of the council,? said Mark Harris, council leader. ?This is clearly just one of the efficiencies we are working to introduce right across the council. The Destiny DP&P project completely supports our dual goals of both providing a better, more efficient service and making the money we have available to care for people in their own homes go further.?

Edward Belgeonne, CEO, Destiny Wireless added: ?We are delighted that the initial Social Services pilot has proved so successful for Leeds City Council, and that they have already identified such impressive savings. The home care application demonstrates exactly how DP&P can be put together as it is simple to use and can deliver powerful results without the need to change the way that people work. Not surprisingly, the success Leeds has had with their initial DP&P implementation is already leading other councils to consider how DP&P solutions using Anoto? Functionality could work in their own organisation.?
