Dell, RCI and Image Microsystems, cooperate on Recycling computer equipment

Dell Announces Resource Concepts Inc., Image Microsystems, Inc. As Recycling And Product Recovery Partners
Round Rock, Texas, July 3, 2003
Dell will work with Dallas-based Resource Concepts Inc. (RCI) and California-based Image Microsystems, Inc., with locations in Los Angeles and Austin, Texas, to support its environmental programs that help U.S. customers retire, reuse and recycle obsolete computer equipment.
Dell is building a national network of approved recyclers to support its environmental programs, improve the economics and convenience of computer recycling for customers across America and properly dispose of customers' old systems with minimal environmental impact.
"We remain committed to making computer recycling affordable and easy for customers, and to building a competitive business infrastructure for computer recycling and reuse," said Pat Nathan, Dell's senior executive for the Environment. "Our environmental partnership with RCI and Image Microsystems is an important step toward that goal."
Dell has established stringent criteria for its recycling vendors including: hardware is demanufactured; no environmentally sensitive waste is exported to developing countries; no environmentally sensitive materials are disposed of in landfills; suppliers' processes maximize the amount of materials recovered for reuse, and processes and certifications which protect worker safety are employed. RCI and Image Microsystems have agreed to these requirements and performance and value standards. Dell is continuing to evaluate other potential recycling vendors.
Dell's recycling programs are some of the most affordable in the industry and make it easy for customers to properly reuse or recycle old computer equipment. Dell's environmental initiatives include:
Recycling of any brand or model of computer or peripheral equipment for $15, including home pick up, for U.S. consumers, Printer recycling at no additional charge with the purchase of a new Dell printer, Ten percent discount on future software and peripheral purchases for consumers who use Dell Recycling, and A 15-city, awareness-building national recycling tour which has collected more than 750 tons of obsolete computers to date.
Additionally, Dell helps business customers recover residual value from obsolete personal computers through its asset recovery program, and was the first computer-systems company in the industry to commit to setting and reporting recycling goals.
