Cipherium Introduces B-series Multi-Service Business Gateway for SMBs & Branch Offices : B1000, B1000W, and B3000
-/Wi-Fi Technology News/-Having introduced wireless security and management solutions for the public wireless LAN space (PWLAN), today Cipherium announced a new series of Multi-Service Business Gateway products for small to medium sized businesses (SMB) - Cipherium B1000, B1000W, and B3000 (B-series).
As the increasing services provided at office are becoming more sophisticated, the trend in applying network access control policies to users and devices has driven SMB companies, those who desire less complexity and have limited budget, to start looking seriously at the benefits of a centrally managed network. The approach is to simplify network deployment and administration - with the most functions at the lowest TCO - without ending up with multiple systems for managing one office network.
While a small office network doesn't match the scale of an enterprise one, many of the same issues apply to both, such as the concern for hideous security issues and the demand for continuous network connection while moving. The ideal network for such organizations therefore must be straightforward and easily managed, yet functional, secure and scalable. As the business grows, the network must easily expand with it. Today, WLANs are deemed an economical way to quickly set up such office networks for SMBs or branch offices to adapt their networks to incremental additions of existing technologies and future changes. Moreover, the wireless network deployed should easily integrate into the existing wired infrastructure, which also means the original wired network is being augmented to extend network coverage and increase mobility by adopting wireless networks.
Cipherium B-series targets the SMB and branch office sector by designing a prescription for how to turn the daunting task of rolling out an office-wide wired/wireless infrastructure to a turnkey setup. B-series simultaneously supports multiple industry-standard authentication methods to seamlessly integrate user authentication with the single sign-on option, which is beneficial to manage WAN, wired LAN, and wireless LAN networks all at one time. Different network access control policies can be enforced on each network to fulfill diversified operational needs. B-series also introduces the concept of Service Zones - multiple virtual networks. The solution is to partition a single physical network into several secure, virtual networks with VLAN technologies. It cuts the complexity and cost to deploy multiple physical networks with customized services to meet the needs of diverse groups accessing the office network within the company.
The self-contained B-series addresses the most concerning issues as follows:
IDENTITY MANAGEMENT AND ROLE-BASED ACCESS CONTROL
In terms of manageability and predictable behavior, the role-based identity management of B-series restricts who can get onto the network and what they can do once connected; in other words, setting policies to authenticate and authorize the user’s access to specific resources based on user identity. Having this capability will allow different users in one office environment to enjoy different levels of network services such as predetermined bandwidth usage threshold - either total bandwidth of a group or individual bandwidth utilization can be limited. The administrator can find it easy to get applications and user groups defined all on a web interface.
SECURE VPN CONNECTION
Want to minimize the possibility of eavesdropping on network communications? In addition to standard encryption capabilities as WPA and standard firewall protection, B-series further brings a powerful security solution to home office, small office and branch office networks - IPSec VPN and PPTP VPN, providing the highest security for data transmitted over wireless links. With B-series Gateway running VPN termination with clientless approach, the administrator can set policies and force a select of individuals or groups to apply VPN on their computers. It works in a walk: B-series Gateway will actively establish VPN tunnels while the selected users are logging in. Not only the traffic within the office network will be protected by IPSec VPN, this VPN module can be configured to support site-to-site IPSec VPN tunnels among remote branch offices. The same clientless VPN setup implementation can also be extended to remote users in accessing office network from public Internet via PPTP VPN tunnels. Once the remote client-to-site PPTP VPN tunnels are established, teleworkers and traveling employees can link back to the office network via reliable, secure connections using their portable devices.
INSTANT GUEST ACCOUNT GENERATION
Certain users with predefined privilege can generate instant guest accounts for visitors simply by clicking one button on the Successful Login page on their own computers. To avoid outsiders sharing the private access-control network as the company’s Intranet, visitors are allowed to access a publicly available network, e.g. the Internet only. The generated instant account is a one-time ticket with time-limit access right, which is also beneficial to reduce the impact on office network security and bandwidth loading. Granting Internet access to visitors will come in helpful to rev up the productivity of daily business meetings.
LOAD BALANCING, WAN FAILOVER, AND SIP PASSTHROUGH
B-series supports two WAN links linked to external networks as the Internet. It can be used for load balancing to improve the efficiency of network resource utilization. A failover mechanism is also implemented on these two links to enhance connection reliability. Another handy feature is by acting as a SIP Proxy Server, B-series Gateways support VoIP calls with SIP transparent pass-through function, without the need for configuration changes of VoIP devices (e.g. Wi-Fi phones).
