MICROSOFT SELECTS SYMBOL TECHNOLOGIES PPT 8800 HANDHELD COMPUTER FOR REAL-TIME REGISTRATION SYSTEM AT ITS WORLDWIDE EVENTS
HOLTSVILLE, N.Y. - August 25, 2003 - Symbol Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: SBL), a global leader in enterprise mobility solutions, and Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq "MSFT") today announced that the Microsoft? Global Marketing Platform team will deploy Windows Mobile(tm)-based wireless enterprise PDAs from Symbol to expedite registration at Microsoft Sales and Marketing events around the world. The Symbol mobility solution will be rolled out to Microsoft marketers worldwide over the next several weeks. This marks the first implementation of the Symbol PPT 8800 with the newly released Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PCs.
Using Symbol PPT 8800s, Microsoft marketers will be able to process on-site registration for their events in real time. The solution enables event personnel to immediately print out bar coded name badges using wireless printers. The Symbol mobility solution also can allow staff to manage promotions such as offering prizes to targeted attendees and directing VIP attendees to specific meeting locations. Previously, event staff performed such tasks manually or used numerous devices. Now, using this system, tasks that need to be taken care of at events can be done on the go, in real time using one fully integrated wireless and scanning solution.
