August 26 2003 /Wi-Fi Technology News/- The iPod has been named best Internet Audio Device in the European Imaging and Sound Association's(EISA) annual awards (http://www.eisa-awards.org/awards/2003-2004/index.htm). Apple's digital device was heralded as "a standard-bearer for the future of Internet music."

The award was actually given in conjunction with Apple's iTunes Music Store, which EISA called "the first successful paid-for Internet music service." The AAC codec used by the store and the iPod is praised as "superior" and "giving better sound quality for a given data rate," reports Macworld UK.

The awards of the EISA were created to recognize new products that combine "the most advanced technology, the most desirable features, the ultimate expression of design, the most satisfying ergonomics and the greatest value for money."
