PCTEL, Inc. (Nasdaq: PCTI), a leading provider of Internet access products and 802.11 mobility software and software defined radio products, announced today the availability of its Wi-Fi(R) version of its Segue(TM) Roaming Client software on the PCTEL website. The Segue(TM) Roaming Client is also available for download and sale on www.download.com.
Corporate and individual users will be able to log on to www.pctel.com and easily download and install the PCTEL Segue(TM) Roaming Client onto their personal laptop or notebook computer. After installation, the user will have access to the full functionality of the Wi-Fi Roaming Client for a free 30 day evaluation period. At any time the user can use a simple purchase wizard in the software to unlock the Roaming Client for permanent use.
The Segue(TM) Roaming Client facilitates end user access to public and private Wi-Fi networks. It does this by providing -

-- Automatic presentation of user credentials dependent on the
network being accessed
-- User prioritization of network connection choices (between
multiple available WLANs)
-- Network specific user profiles for automatically launching VPN
clients, modifying proxy settings, or automatically launching

They access the Internet through one-time sessions or pre-paid purchase of Wi-Fi access from a variety of providers - as well as in the home and enterprise environments. The web-based Segue(TM) Roaming Client is a Wi-Fi only version of the product. PCTEL recently announced a dual mode version of its Segue(TM) Roaming Client that will enhance interoperability and roaming between 802.11, CDMA2000 1X and GPRS Networks. Both versions are compatible with Microsoft(R) Windows 98 Second Edition, Microsoft(R) Windows Me, Microsoft(R) Windows 2000, or Microsoft(R) Windows XP. The PCTEL download site lists over 80 Wi-Fi adapters currently tested with and supported by the Roaming Client software. A downloadable version of the Segue Roaming Client for PocketPC 2002 platforms will be available later this year as well.
