NETGEAR?S 802.11g Wireless Cable Modem Residential Gateway Attains CableHome? 1.0 Certification
The NETGEAR CG814WG lets MSOs offer advanced networking services to residential subscribers at faster speeds
SANTA CLARA, Calif. ? October 14, 2003 ? ? NETGEAR, Inc., (Nasdaq: NTGR) a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, today announced that its latest wireless cable modem gateway, model CG814WG, received CableHome? 1.0 certification in CableLabs?? Certification Wave 26 and was recertified in Certification Wave 27.
Cable Television Laboratories (CableLabs) is a non-profit research and development consortium. CableHome is a CableLabs-managed initiative that, coupled with cable broadband service, allows for the distribution of broadband service throughout a consumer?s home. The initiative offers the consumer a secure and managed residential gateway that can be connected to the cable network in a plug-and-play fashion, offloading much of the technical burden inherent in home networking from the consumer to cable operator. It builds upon the already successful Data over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) project.
Said David James, NETGEAR?s Product Line Manager for Residential Gateways, ?We?re delighted that our gateway has met CableLabs? stringent requirements for this distinction. The CableHome certification of the CG814WG, the first 54Mbps wireless 802.11g gateway incorporating DOCSIS 2.0, demonstrates our significant technical advantage, thus offering a state-of-the-art solution for cable operators to provide to their customers in the residential market.?
CableLabs? Certified? means that NETGEAR?s wireless cable modem gateway has passed a series of tests for compliance with the CableHome Specification and has thus demonstrated interoperable functionality with other "CableLabs certified/qualified" devices.
NETGEAR?s CG814WG joins a growing family of CableLabs-certified NETGEAR products that enable cable operators to offer even more advanced home networking services to their subscribers. In Wave 24, in December 2002, a different NETGEAR residential gateway, model CG314WH, received CableHome 1.0 certification.
