Telef?nica S.A. Affiliates in Puerto Rico Select Nortel to Build VoIP Network
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico ?March 3, 2004 /Wi-Fi Technology News/- TData Puerto Rico and TLD (Telef?nica Larga Distancia) of Puerto Rico, affiliates of Telef?nica S.A., have selected Nortel Networks* [NYSE/TSX: NT] to converge their local, long-distance and data services onto a next generation voice over IP (Internet Protocol) network, enabling rapid delivery of advanced IP services to businesses and consumers in Puerto Rico.
IP-based packet networks allow voice, video and data traffic, which traditionally run over separate networks, to be combined on a single, high-speed broadband communications infrastructure. Nortel Networks will provide a comprehensive voice over IP (VoIP) solution that will position both service providers to offer local and long-distance services and high-speed Internet access over a single IP ?pipe.?

This converged solution will increase network capacity, enabling more rapid delivery of innovative, bandwidth-intensive services. Also included are Nortel Networks Passport* Packet Voice Gateway (PVG), designed to help switch voice calls more cost-effectively; Nortel Networks Preside* network management systems; and professional services ranging from network design to network operation and maintenance.
TLD and TData will also use Vero Systems AcuRoute automated optimal routing software.
