Hi folks

I’m new to this form, and new to wireless networks.

I need some advice. Here is how I setup my network.

I have a DSL router/modem wired, plugged into that is a belkin wireless router. From the belkin I have one wired pc and 2 wireless. Now I have the wired router/modem wall on but the wireless router wall off. All 3 the pc’s see each other under an Mshome network setup. All 3 pc’s have software firewalls. Can someone pls advise me what the best way to secure my home network is? My ISP has given me a private IP. I have also forgotten the address to my belkin setup page.

I know this looks rough but like I said I'm new to wireless networks and needs some help.

Keep it real, keep it free.

Wolfy

Go to Belkin homepage and look in support, you should find your network address for the router, probably 192.168.1.1, try a few different numbers at the end, also try at the cmd prompt type ipconfig/all this may show you the address.

It sounds like you have rather large setup for a household, maybe you should invest in a ADSL/wireless router, but it also sounds like your network is working fine too, probably look at having firewall on your main router carrying the ADSL, then firewalls on each terminal as a back up incase the firewall on your router does not auto update itself, look at using security on your wireless network, enable WEP and hide your SSID, anyone sitting outside your house could access MSHOME network if its unsecured.

If you need advice on getting a cheap all in one router, my tech guys have there regular places where they source kit.

Liam
