Hi All,
I've encountered the weirdest thing. My associate and
I have tried connecting our laptops using 802.11G
ad-hoc mode. We have repeatedly sat and gone
through each step together to assure that everything
was identical that needed to be. The funny thing
is, when we are done both computers will pop up
saying they've connected to the network we've
created, but we can't see each others computers or
access each others files. File sharing is set up
on both and we didn't enable encryption.
We are both running XP Home SP1.
I'm at a loss. I've tried letting Windows configure
the settings and I've tried manually configuring
the settings on each.... what am I missing???
The thing is, if each computer recognizes the
network and each says they are connected, why
can't they see each other?
Please help guys. I'm going bald so I don't want
to rip out any more hair.
Sincerely,
Pbro

I'm having the same problem with 2 Belkin 802.11b
PCI adapters..... managed to get it working once
then a reboot and all packed up - infuriating
isn't it!!!

I think that connecting two pc with adhoc methode
is like the same think connecting them with a
network cable without a hub inside that nedd a
crosover cable, so transmite and recive are connected
in a cross with each others.
with the wireles is the same thing but th cross
will be in the signals out and in, and an
connection adhoc wil have sucess avarytime.
I sugest thet u try to put to each pc or
laptop an ip on the wireless connecton for exp.
laptop 1.
192.168.0.1
gateway: same ip
laptop2.
192.168.0.10
gateway: 192.168.0.1
(the ip of the laptop 1)
and try to see each other on the network.
if this gives noreselt try to use netbios
protocol
so go to the wireles connection on the network
connwction
and activate the field netbios over tcpip, also u
need to add the netbios protocol if u dont have
one , windows xp have for defoult netbios
installed.
good luck |

| Finnally got it working thank you. Unfortunately, I'm
not 100% sure how we did it. Wish I could
say I learned something valuable but the only thing
that I've learned is that we still have a
long way to go before we enjoy the Troublefree
WI-FI that I keep hearing about. |

| Ok--- I have a similar problemI have my Desktop
and my Laptop Both have Internet access through a
Linksys with SRX wireless router. My desktop is
Wired and also has the printer hooked up to
it. I looked on my desktop on my network
places it shows Both computers are connected....But
when i look on my Laptop it only shows itself.
I can share files from my desktop to my Laptop
but i cant share from my laptop to my desktop.
And i would like to share my printer that i
have hooked up to my desktop but i can't do
that. I have file sharing setup on both computers
with the same settings on both. The only thing
different is that my desktop uses Norton
Interent security and my laptop uses Mcaffee. I
thought that made a difference but i set the
settings the exact same way on both and it did
not work. so i tried to turn both internet
securites off and both Windows firewalls off... NO
LUCK. So Basically My desktop can see
both computers on the network but my laptop can
only see itself....HELP!! I also had a 2
networking guys other than myself look at it and
they went through my systems and they cant figure
it out...So i am here ! |
