Hello,

I have a verizon connection-modem/router to main level of my home and since I have couple of machines in my basement, I have an additional router(LinkSyS) hardwired from the Verizon router. Now my question is...
When i type in the (after verifying I am really attached to linksys router) admin URL i.e, 192.168.1.1, it is hitting the verizons router and I am puzzled as to how to manage/administer the LINKSYS router now, which URL should I use to hit the LINKSYS router? am i doing something wrong here?

Many thanks in advance!

check you've the right url. for your router mod no.
Linksys used to use 192.168.2.251 with no username, and admin as the password for the kit i've used.

I think Linksys use a different default IP in newer routers which is 192.168.1.1

Different routers have different IPs set by their manufacturers. I am told 192.168.1.1 is Linksys now and other routers default IP address, such as Orange Live-Box for example also has the above IP address. Manufacturers tend to change to newer IPs with different configurations to catch up with security trends, At one time Linksys (and most if not all other manufacturers) did not have admin and password to access for administering the router. At one time routers were very weak in security and almost no protection including coming open by default and no WEP (WPA now) key needed, wardriving was a lot of fun in those days

Your problem may be connecting two routers together and that is slightly different accessing which to admin, search the forums here for "connecting two routers" or "connecting 2 routers" or similar, a lot of write up about that.

It probably also depend on which country you are in, not too sure about that but worth bearing in mind though!
