Have successfully used RDC from laptop running Vista to home PC running Windows XP Pro. To do this I went to virtual servers section of Belkin wireless router and forwarded port 3389 to the PC. However, we have 3 PCs attached to this router, and I now want to do RDC to any of these 3 PCs. Have read about using regedit to change the listening port and think I can do that. Questions:
Do I edit regedit on each of the 3 PCs to a different listening port, and if so, what numbers would you suggest I use? Once I have edited listening ports, what do I type on the virtual server page - are inbound port and private port going to be the same number (the new listening port) similar to the current 3389-3389 for inbound port and 3389-3389 for private port? What do I type when I initiate the RDC session in addition to the number I used previously - from what I've read I need to use a colon followed by this new port number to access a specific home PC. I guess I'm confused as to what/who is doing the actual listening - seems like it's the router that is listening and forwarding, so I'm thinking what good is changing the listening port on each PC going to do? Thinking possibly virtual server page is going to have 3389-3389 for inbound port and this new number (i.e. 44228-44228) as the private port or something along those lines. Thanks for help with this.
