I am located in the Netherlands, and I am with Orange Broadband. Therefore
I have the Orange Livebox, which I've been happily using for over a
year.
I have just decided to try and make this wireless, however, as Orange
charge extra for a card to fit inside the livebox, I was looking for a one
off payment that would allow me to connect wirelessly without paying extra
monthly charges to Orange. I was advertised to purchase the Buffalo
WHR-HP-G54 High Power Wireless G Access Point w/4 Port Switch , which has
arrived today.
Following the instructions I am getting absolutely nowhere...
Ethernet cable from Modem into WAN port on Airstation - check
Other cable from PC into slot 1 on the Airstation - check
Start up Livebox, wait 1 minute - check (all lights come on as normal)
Start up Airstation, wait 1 minute - check (two green lights come on, the
bottom one occasionally flickering as you would expect)
Boot up PC
Connect to Firefox, Flock, IE (whatever browser)
Internet cannot be found message.
Go to 192.168.11.1
Internet cannot be found message.
Refresh wireless network list - there is the new unsecured connection
there.
5% of the time it might actually connect, and you will see the settings
screen from 192.168.11.1, this however will cut out at every available
opportunity.
I've no idea what to do next. Any ideas?
What I am trying to achieve is simple. I am keeping my PC wired, but I want
wireless available for a laptop in another room, I want it secured so that
neighbours can't steal bandwidth, but that is about it. So whatever the
easiest solution is, I'm interested in that one

Hi, well firstly if you can manage to connect the wireless access point
with the ethernet cable to your PC, then go to 192.168.11.1, once you go to
the settings page, look for the WEP security option , you would see the
option to enter the 10 digit WEP (For 64 bit encryption). So thats your
security, and in order to make the wireless connection better, you can try
changing the channels, this option would also be available in the
192.168.11.1 page.
Hope it would be a little help for you |
