I am building antenna from the following website:

wonderhowto /how-to/video/how-to-turn-an-old-satellite-dish-into-a-strong-wifi-antenna- 201156/

This is an antenna built from a old satellite dish. Since this is hard wired from dish, how do I make a wireless conection from my laptop? Will a wireless usb hub work in connection with a wifi usb port usb on my laptap? Would this combination be incompatible with wifi siginal? I need a good cheap solution.

I am trying to receive a wifi signal approx 300 feet from wif source.

Don't want to pour cold water on your enthusiasm Dean. But forget it.
My limited understanding of a satellite dish tells me that they focus any signal onto the LNB, which is mounted on an arm in front, not at the center of a dish? For the sake of an extra £20 get a proper aerial?

I suggest, outdoor 8Db panel (directional) or Omni (360deg) & bracket (£20), pre-made aerial lead (from £8) into your loft, to a Cheap AP in client mode (£30), Then linked to another AP in (AP mode) with a pre-made Ethernet lead (50p for .3m). Not as cheap as an old dish admittedly - however a directional panel will give you a good signal from at least 300mts, probably a lot further given decent line of sight.

Give the AP's a different IP address so you can configure them remotely from your laptop. I use this config all the time for our WISP clients, and find an AP in the loft will reach anywhere in a modern house.
