Hi,
I've just moved into a new house that has a
wired network running to every room.
I wanted to plug my existing wireless router (Sky)
into the living room where the telephone line is,
and wondered if I could buy an access point
to plug into the kitchen hardwired network point so
I could get wireless in the garden.
I assume this is technically possible, but wondered
if the access point I needed would differ. I
won't need the access point in the kitchen to
connect to my exisiting wireless router via wireless.
But I will need it to pick up the internet,
pass it through the wired network and then
broadcast it wirelessly (on the same network) to
the kitchen and garden.
Any advice and recommendations on equipment would be
appreciated.
Thanks,
Terry.

You have kit which is wireless and provides
coverage to the kitchen, however it wont reach the
garden? It also has an ethernet port(s), which
you have pluged into the existing house network,
making Internet available on a wired port in the
kitchen?
If so, use your laptop to configure any AP to
create a second wireless zone from the network port
in the kitchen. With a network name, security,
and on a channle of your choice.
Or Choose an AP with "Universal repeater" mode and
use it with no connection to it's ethernet port
to extend the coverage of your existing wireless
zone.
In both sugestions be awear that Pilkington K glass
(kitchen window?) has a similar effect on WiFi
as a brick wall and coverage outside may be
limited.
