my wireless strength on my belkin 54g wireless card is low at 2.0 mbps out of a possible 54!

i am in the next room from the router and it still is rubbish , i had the computer downstairs and u just didnt get a signal what so ever.
we think the casing of the computer is interferrin , and the antenna for the wireless isnt doin much if u move it, is there some kind of bigger antenna or antenna extender that you can buy to stick ontop of the comp to get a better connection?

a cheap and cheerful suggestion wud be handy

cheers

Low transfer speed is usually the result of a weak/intermitent signal. Though I can't see why it's rubbish in the next room . Even with the stock 2db aerials you should be ok?

Before buying anything.
Move your router and PC into the same room and test, or pull out your PC and turn it round so it's not up against a wall.
Try different channle(s).
Make sure you only have one AV app on your PC.
Foil backed plaster board partitions/thick walls? will serverly limit WiFi.
Wifi does'nt always travel in a straight line, so open doors see if that makes a difference?
Have a read through previous post - loads of stuff about signal strenghth issues icon_smile .

Rather than go down the "bigger" aerial route I would recomend you tried a wireless USB dongle for about £20ish. Prefrably of the same make as the wireless router you're connecting to.

Higher gain aerials focus the signal both on a horizontal and vertical plain, so if you're out of arc - you may end up no better, or even worse off.

If you haven't a front usb port, find a dongle with an extension so you can bring the device out from behind the PC.
Remember to disable/remove your existing pci wireless card
