(just so you know) I have an old and somewhat worn, second hand Toshiba laptop (allegedly with built in wireless) and i want to use this built in wireless to connect to my strong signalled, fully functioning wireless from my pc router. How, on the laptop, do i search for any available wireless signals or access points, etc - because it seems the laptop doesnt even know the built in wi fi hardware exists? - because when i try to create a new connection or wireless connection in my network connections etc, it stops me in my tracks and tells me i do not have a network adapter/suitable network hardware installed?

I think the built in wi fi might be faulty (which btw has a.. portal on the side of the laptop with an on/off switch etc [which i keep on!]), so i guess to pick up the signal from my router i just need to get a usb wireless network adapter?

hi Joe, been doing a bit with a couple of really old Tosh laptops myself recently. Unfortunatly neither had WiFi .
Down loaded a bios upgrade and some drivers from here :-

Make sure everythings ok in device manager, possibly find an upgraded driver?

USB dongles are so cheap now it would probably be the easier route mind.

let's know how you get on

I downloaded the driver update for LAN WI FI, extracted all files etc, ran the setup wizard and it states that the hardware i wish to update, etc, is not present- it may have slipped out or been removed etc - please re insert

- or along those lines anyway
