How do the Wifi hotspots redirect you to their site? I know there is ways to get around this by spoofing your MAC address.

This is doing by Webredirect technology in AP.

Webdirect has two modes. One is Registration Mode and the other is Advertisement mode.

In Registration mode when we request a page eg yahoo. It will always get redirected to a specific registration page of which the URL is specified in AP.

In Advertisement mode the specified URL will be displayed for a time interval specified in AP and get redirected to the user requested URL.
