I am fairly new to linux, I mean I can
somewhat navigate in the OS but other than that...
I run a dual boot system with winxp and
suse9.2. Everything werks great with my wireless
laptop while running in windows, but when I try
to use it under linux I run into some
problems... I barely know how to use it under
linux and cannot seem to find much documentation
regarding exactly what to do after the card has
been configured and the user wants to connect and
run a browser such as mozilla. In the book I
have been reading, Linux Unwired ,(O'Reilly Books)
There is plenty about configuration and a bit about
connecting, but it is really just a bit, and
hasn't been enough to get me going so far. It
suggests to associate with a 'hotspot' one must
use:
iwconfig wlan0 essid any
and that should connect the card to any available
hotspot in range. While when I do this and hit
enter, the terminal just goes to the next line
and a new prompt, no help. It also gives the
commands, 'iwlist'. It says that one should be able
to just fire up a favorite browser and
everything should work, but I get an error and
nothing. I guess I need to know if there is
an easier way to get a browser online than this,
because there is not alot of help for someone
new to the OS, especially when I can just
re-boot into windows and werk away, but that is
in windows, and it sucks.. any further commands
that could be of use would be great, or other
suggestiions. Thanks in advance, __________________________________

hi, jayday71,
enjoy with linux, it can run everything that you
want.
if you read the book Linux Unwired , I
recommend another book Beginner's Introduction to KDE
, you can search and find it.
good luck. __________________________________
