Have just installed Belkin wireless G Router and
wireless G USB network adapter - all seems to be
working fine, however as soon as I try to set
up any security it cuts off the connection from
the 2nd pc - as soon as I disable it the
connection returns, can anyone tell me what I'm
doing wrong?

It depends on what you mean by security, however,
it could a number of scenarios including:
- Make sure the second PC is not blocked by
the firewall
- Maybe it is password protected and when security
is implemented, if no password, no connection..
- If you have the network authentication as shared
try it Open
- Try using it also without WEP or WPA just
for testing (without data encryption)
- The wireless network itself maybe is set in
Ad-Hoc mode (direct connection from one computer to
another without the use of access points..), try
Any Available Network or Access Point
(Infrastructure network) seen you use a router or
similar. Although in ad-hoc mode, you can have
quite few machines connecting no problem to each
other or the server itself, when an access point
/ router is there, that may make things slightly
different.
- One thing also is the windows firewall, make
sure in the settings for the firewall, the wireless
network is listed in the Exceptions , that
is as I said above, the connection is exempt
from blocking. Go to Control panel, widows firewall
if using Win XP or a similar place if other
windows version or indeed other OS, there, click on
advanced, you should see that windows firewall is
enabled for one or more connections, one of them
should be the name of the wireless network (as
it blocks everything except what's in the list,
make sure it's not blocking the connection from the
second PC as a result). Have a look in the
Exceptions button while there as well.
- Read the Belkin manual or even go to their
sites, I am sure they'll have some instructions or
manual / FAQ there!
Good luck
