dkdutt,
I have worked with a few routers in my time but never a thomson tcw710, so I dont know how good they are. What I recommend you do is go on their website normally they have a Driver/Support page, download the latest firmware for the router in questions and hopefully this will solve the problem of intermittent connection. If this does not solve the problem contact your ISP they can ping the Router to check connection.

dkdutt,
Some good suggestions have been posted. If the outage occurs every 4 minutes it seems too regular to be something random like a cordless phone. What you really need to do is do a site survey. Unfortunately, most site survey is done with a 802.11 client so other signals like cordless phones, microwaves, and other transmitting devices don't get picked up. Nevertheless, at least see if there is another powerful wifi signal nearby. Then you can play with you channel selection to move to a different channel.

You can also try a directional antenna. My recommendation would be a panel or a grid, they're ugly but they have high gain. The high gain will give you a narrower beam which could also help isolate interference.

Sometimes the noise figure in the environment may just be too high. Moving to a higher frequency, say 5Ghz could move you out of the interfering band.

Good luck..........RFengr
